Education, as it stands out, is one of the most potential game changer in the course of uplifting underprivileged communities. Over the years of our efforts in ensuring accessibility of education in rural areas, we have witnessed remarkable transformation in the lives of more than 20,000 rural, underprivileged children and youth. The beauty of this transformation is its ever-increasing ripple effect that positively impacts their families and the society at large. Before we delve more into our work, here’s a story that testifies the need to reach out to the rural, less-privileged children and youth.
Navneeta N., is our Grade 10 student from Chikkaballapur Girls Campus. She hails from Ajjawara, a remote village in Kolar district. She belongs to a family of farm labourers. Her parents work in the fields and barely earn enough to even meet the basic needs. She was selected to join our institution during the annual village visits survey that is conducted before every academic year. Since then she has never looked back. She is a first-generation learner in her family and had begun her education at a local Kannada medium government school prior to getting selected to join our institution. She says, “Being selected to join the institution was like a golden opportunity for someone like me who comes from a family that traditionally disregarded girl child education and grossly underestimated the innate potential of girls and women in general. In this institution, I am receiving quality, residential education completely free-of-cost. This life-changing experience has empowered me mentally and physically and has also fuelled a burning desire to serve the needy and the downtrodden. My dream is to become a doctor, and treat those who do not have the means and access to the required medical facilities.”
The question is, what if we had not found her… would she have been able to continue her education and pursue her dreams? The reality is, there are still many more thousands like her who are deprived of and denied of essential developmental needs such as education, nutrition, well-being, accommodation, healthcare, talent support and the like.
Our core outlook
We strive to address the overall developmental aspects of children, right from daily care to enabling them to attain their aspirations. So, we have meticulously designed our three education programmes to meet the mentioned prerequisites. Our programmes are:
- Each One Educate One Programme: This is essentially designed for students of Grade 6 to 12 (PUC).
- Each One Higher Educate One Programme: This is for undergraduate to PhD level students
- Each One Medical Educate One Programme: This is developed for MBBS, Nursing, and Allied Health Sciences students. This is also the first free-of-cost medical education programme in India.
These three education programmes take care of each beneficiary completely and support their overall development in all areas. All the facilities and amenities provided under these programmes are completely free-of-cost for all beneficiaries and this includes all the below-mentioned:
- Education from Grade 6 to PhD level including MBBS, Nursing, and Allied Health Sciences
- Nutrition that includes wholesome meals three times, healthy drinks and snacks
- Accommodation in safe, secure, separate campuses for boys and girls
- Daily essentials such as clothes, hygiene kits, bedding, etc.
- Healthcare with regular check-ups and required treatment is given to students across all campuses
- Coaching and training programmes to support children to hone their talent and skills
- Paid internships after completion of undergraduate course.
A sustainable path to progress
We understood early on in our journey that to take education to the rural hinterlands, we have to be accessible to the rural populace. So, we have strategically established our 28 campuses across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana by ensuring close proximity to the rural areas of 20 districts in these states. So far, we have transformed the lives of more than 20,000 rural children and youth and at present, we are educating and nurturing 3,000 rural, underprivileged children in our campuses.
The significance of education in rural areas lies in its manifold impact. Right from improving individual lives, it uplifts the entire family out of poverty, and eventually improves social, economic, and living standards of the entire society.
It also contributes to creating a pool of resourceful citizens who can efficiently contribute to the larger good of the entire nation and the world. In addition, education plays a significant role in eliminating several social evils such as gender discrimination, poverty, hunger, and the like.
