Education in India has been a key driver to help move large segments of the population on to the growth path that the nation has been witnessing for some time now. However, this trend has been a rather skewed one and has mostly remained an urban phenomenon. Sadly, rural India, which accounts for nearly 60% of the educable population of our country has not been a beneficiary in equal measure, because quality education continues to be a privilege rather than a right in these parts. Considering that nearly 70% of India continues to live in its villages, it was imperative that a level playing field as far as access to quality education is concerned, was created as quickly as possible.
The essential first step, therefore, was to build awareness in society of the dire need for accessible and quality education and digital inclusion, which is otherwise beyond the reach of the underprivileged masses of our country even today; followed by a clarion call for large scale societal participation to make education truly accessible and inclusive.
About Each One Educate One Foundation
The Each One Educate One (E1E1) Foundation is a For-Impact, UN SDGs-aligned NGO, providing free-of-charge, holistic, values-based, residential education to the un-served and under-served children and youths (girls and boys) hailing from socio-economically disadvantaged and vulnerable groups in rural India; irrespective of their caste, creed, color, race, religion, gender or geography. The E1E1 Foundation operates on the founding principle: “Education is the fundamental right of every child and should be made available and accessible free of charge”.
The uniqueness of our model lies in the fact that we carefully select and hand-hold children from these segments of rural societies, from their higher primary level education at the age of 11-12 years right until they complete their higher education in our university by the age of 22 years; or complete their Vocational Skills Development course with internship at our Skill Development Centre, by the age of 18-20 years. All our campuses are located deep in the rural hinterlands of Karnataka, Telangana & Tamil Nadu.

Mission: To serve as a global platform for like-minded individuals, institutions, and corporates to participate in giving every child access to quality, values-based, holistic education.
Each One Educate One (E1E1) began as an initiative in 2012-13. The initiative marked the coming together of the alumni of Sri Sathya Sai Educational Institutions, with the intent and objective of paying it forward through the collective participation of like-minded individuals and corporates, to fund the education of rural underprivileged students enrolled in the institutions established under the aegis of the Prashanthi Balamandira Trust (PBT).
With the increase in the number of rural beneficiaries every year and the rapid expansion of the educational campuses, the E1E1 initiative gained momentum and the need arose for a formal organization, to manage and scale the educational activities. Thus, came into being the Each One Educate One Foundation, formally registered in September 2017.
Today, while PBT continues to establish & maintain the educational campuses & infrastructure for the schools, university and the teaching hospitals, the E1E1 Foundation manages and administers the Edu-care scholarship programs and fellowships for the students enrolled in:
- 24 school campuses operating under the name: Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam Schools, imparting Higher Primary, Secondary & Higher Secondary education to ~2400 students (girls & boys) every year.
- 4 university campuses operating under the name: Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence (a private, autonomous university), imparting Higher Education to ~500 students (girls & boys) every year.
