Education is one of the main pillars of a developed and prosperous nation. The Constitution of India states education as a fundamental right for all citizens, implying it must be accessible and available to all irrespective of any kind of gender, socio-economic, or geographical differences. Yet, a considerable section of the society is deprived of education. To address this, the government has devised several schemes such as Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, PM-POSHAN Scheme, as well as many scholarships and infrastructure development schemes in government schools and colleges. Supporting the efforts of the government are education NGOs spread across the country who are taking education to the lowest and the remotest of communities, rightly giving them the credibility of being top education NGOs in India.
The role of education NGOs in India
NGOs work at the grassroot level, giving them the advantage of reaching the most needy. The same holds true for education NGOs too. So when you donate for education, it extends significant support to NGOs to continue and expand their service to benefit needy children. Since there are various aspects under the umbrella of education, NGOs select one of the factors as their core cause and others as their subsidiary causes because of the interdependent nature of the factors. For example: if providing school meals is the core cause of an NGO, then subsidiary factors like improvement in enrolment rates, attendance, health, and performance of students are achieved as a parallel effect. Listed below are some of the key aspects education NGOs cater to:
- Improve accessibility: This is one of the core objectives of education NGOs. These NGOs work towards ensuring education is accessible to marginalised communities as well as in rural, remote hinterlands. They also work towards increasing enrolment, attendance, and retention rates of children from these communities.
- Ensure quality: Some education NGOs focus on improving the quality and standard of teaching-learning methods by upgrading the infrastructure and integrating innovative and new-age tools and techniques like smartboards, labs, libraries, educational toys, digital literacy, and the like. They also work towards improving the teacher-student ratio in schools to address unavailability of teachers and overcrowded classrooms.
- Address hindrances: Poverty, gender discrimination, caste system, unavailability of schools in close proximity, lack of transport facility, and social evils like child labour and early marriage obstruct children from receiving education. The NGOs strive to address these issues at various levels with the objective to ensure every child receives their share of rightful education and with your generous choice to donate for education, these NGOs can certainly make forward strides in their efforts.
- Engage and spread awareness: On a regular basis, NGOs conduct awareness programmes to engage with local communities, parents, and other related stakeholders and educate them on the importance of education. They also inform the communities about the various schemes the government has rolled out to support education and skill development of children from primary grades to higher education level.
- Research and advocacy: Since the education NGOs work at ground zero, they are better aware and informed of the real issues hindering the achievement of “education for all”. This gives them the edge to conduct thorough analysis of the challenges and requirements, thereby enabling them to ask for need-based support, innovate practical solutions, as well as advocate for policy changes and reforms in the education system.
Bridging the education gap sustainably
Education cannot be considered as an independent component, for its close dependency on several other factors. To address this there are a handful of NGOs that provide a comprehensive platform for children to learn and grow. We are glad that we are among one of them! From the very start, we looked at providing an all-inclusive ecosystem for our students who come from rural, socio-economically disadvantaged communities. With the mission to transform their lives through quality education, complete care, and holistic development, we designed three integrated edu-care programmes:
- Each One Educate One Programme covering Grade 6 to PUC
- Each One Higher Educate One Programme focussing on graduate, postgraduate, and PhD level
- Each One Medical Educate One Programme for MBBS, Nursing, and Allied Health Sciences
Our free-of-charge, robust education system allows for seamless transition from one academic level to the next. The three edu-care programmes are designed to provide quality, values-based education, along with complete well-being covering nutrition, accommodation, health, daily care, talent nurture, overall development, and employability skills.
We provide equal opportunities to both boys and girls and have 28 campuses covering 20 districts in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana with students from all across India. So far, we have transformed the lives of more than 20,000 rural children and youth and at present, we are educating and nurturing 3,000 students. Our efforts have been acknowledged at both national and international platforms and we have been recognised as one of the top education NGOs in India. While at the core we define our success in the achievements of our students, but it feels great to have been awarded prestigious education awards along the way for our efforts such as the Business World Top Education Brands Awards 2023 in the category of “Emerging Higher Education Institution in India” and “Innovative School in India”; AsiaOne Greatest Brands Award 2023 for its university and medical college – Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence and Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research; Economic Times Education Excellence Awards 2024 in the category of “Emerging Deemed/Private University”; and the IDA Education Award 2024 in the category of “Student Wellbeing and Engagements”.
