Higher education is an essential phase in the education journey of every student. It is considered as a pathway to success and a means to achieve aspirations and career goals, thereby enabling students to be self-reliant and resourceful. However, it is unfortunate that not all students have equal access to higher education, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds. In this blog, we will focus on higher education in Karnataka and the importance of donations in making it accessible to underprivileged students and bridging the higher education gap.
Karnataka is a hub for higher education attracting students from across India as well as from abroad. Approximately, 22-lakh students are pursuing their higher education across 90 universities and more than 5000 colleges in Karnataka. Despite this, lakhs of students from rural and underprivileged communities lack access to higher education. To address this situation, several NGOs in Karnataka have taken it up as their core cause to make higher education accessible to underprivileged students.
Donations play a crucial role in the functioning of NGOs as well as in the expansion of their operational reach. Below are six ways how donations can support higher education for underprivileged children:
- Financial Support: One of the primary barriers that underprivileged students face when pursuing higher education is the lack of financial resources. Tuition fees, textbooks, accommodation, and other expenses can quickly add up, making it impossible for many students to afford the cost of education. Donations can provide much-needed financial support to these students, enabling them to cover their expenses and focus on their studies rather than worrying about finances.
- Scholarships and Grants: Donations can also be used to give scholarships and grants to underprivileged students. This will not only make higher education more affordable, but also encourage and reward academic excellence among underprivileged students.
- Infrastructure and Facilities: NGOs in Karnataka can utilize the donations to build or upgrade classrooms, libraries, computer labs, and other important learning spaces. By providing these resources, underprivileged students can have access to quality education on par with their more privileged counterparts.
- Educational Support Programs: Donations can also be directed towards establishing educational support programs for underprivileged students such as mentoring, tutoring, career counseling, skilling, research and development initiatives, and networking opportunities. These programs can help underprivileged students overcome any additional challenges they may face and maximize their chances of success in higher education.
- Breaking the Cycle of Poverty: One of the most significant long-term benefits of making higher education accessible to underprivileged students is that it helps break the cycle of poverty. Education equips individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to secure better job opportunities and improve their economic conditions. Investing in education for underprivileged children will not only pave the way for a brighter future for the students, but also for their families and communities.
Making higher education available and accessible
At the Each One Educate One Foundation, we understood early on that to take education to the rural hinterlands, we have to be accessible to the rural populace as well as ensure continuity of education. So, we have strategically established our 28 campuses across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana by ensuring close proximity to the rural areas of 21 districts in these states. So far, we have transformed the lives of more than 18,000 rural children and youth and at present, we are educating and nurturing 3,000 rural, underprivileged children in our campuses.
We have built a robust end-to-end education ecosystem that ensures seamless transition from one academic level to the next. In addition, we take care of the complete well-being of each student covering nutrition, accommodation, health, daily care, skilling, development, and employability – all totally free-of-charge.

Invest to empower
In conclusion, our efforts are powered by the donations contributed by our generous donors, patrons, and corporate partners. This reinstates the importance of donations for charitable organizations that are striving towards making higher education accessible to underprivileged students. Donations can provide the essential financial support, scholarships, infrastructure, educational support programs, and community outreach initiatives that can help bridge the gap and ensure that no student is denied the opportunity to pursue higher education due to their economic background. So, step in and invest in the education of underprivileged students. You will not only empower the students, but also contribute to the overall development and progress of society.
