A Chance to Stay in School

Shreesha Rokaya, Grade 12 (Science)

I lost my mother when I was just one and a half years old because my village in Humla, Nepal, had no access to basic healthcare. At four, I was sent to an orphanage in Kathmandu because my father could not afford to take care of my four brothers and me. He also feared that society would treat a motherless girl differently.

I walked nearly an hour every day to school, where I learned that children were often divided by where they came from. Those of us from the orphanage sat separately from children from wealthy families, leaving me with a painful sense of difference.

Everything changed when I got the opportunity to join the Chikkaballapur campus in Grade 6. For the first time, no one asked where I came from or made me feel different because I had no parents. I was simply treated as an equal.

Here, along with quality education, I also found dignity, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

Today, I am preparing for the NEET examination with a dream of becoming a doctor and returning to my village. I want to provide the basic medical care my family did not have access to when my mother was ill.

I do not want another child to suffer the way I did.

A Chance to Pursue Higher Education

Pallavi M, BA in English and Computer Applications

I come from a small village near Chikkaballapur. My mother has been the pillar of strength for our family after my father left us when I was young.

I joined Prashanthi Balamandira School in Grade 8. Transitioning from a rural background to a more urban setting was challenging, especially when it came to adapting to the digital world. Initially, even basic digital concepts were difficult for me.

But the opportunities I received at school changed that. Exposure to diverse teaching methods and encouragement to explore computer-related topics sparked my curiosity. Today, as a student pursuing a degree in Computer Applications, I am not only familiar with numerous digital terms but have also acquired proficiency in Python, a programming language.

Without the opportunities I received, I may never have discovered my passion for the digital world or found this path for my future.

A Chance to Become a Doctor

Yashas, MBBS, 2nd Year

I lost both my parents at a very young age. Life without them was never easy, but I continued my education with determination.

Coming from a Kannada-medium background, transitioning to English-medium education was another challenge. It was difficult to understand my subjects at first, but with time, effort and perseverance, I adapted and grew in confidence. I have also completed my junior level in Carnatic music.

Today, I am pursuing my MBBS. Receiving free medical education has been one of the greatest blessings in my life. Without my parents, pursuing a medical degree would have been extremely difficult, both emotionally and financially.

This opportunity has given me more than an education. It has given me stability, hope and renewed confidence. It reminds me every day to make the most of this chance and use my knowledge to serve society with gratitude, compassion, and dedication.
