The Wind That Propelled My Dream
I am Damini, from Hulsoor village in Bidar district. My father is a cook in a private school, and my mother works in a garment factory. I attended a government school until 10th grade, and for my PUC education, I had to walk to the next village everyday, which left me exhausted. Despite these challenges, my dream of becoming a doctor never faded. However, I knew that my parents could not afford my medical education. During my PUC, while preparing for NEET, my mother sold her only piece of jewelry, her earrings, to fund my coaching. Thanks to her sacrifice and God's grace, I managed to clear the NEET exam. During the counseling process, I came across Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, and it was here that my dreams took flight.
Since joining this institution, my life has changed in ways I never imagined. I no longer have to worry about basic needs, as everything is provided to me, often before I even ask. If I had been in another college, my parents would have been deeply worried about my safety, my hostel, college life, and also about arranging funds for fees. Now, they are relieved and happy, knowing that I am in a place where I feel secure and content.
My dream is to serve the poor and needy and to help many more girls like me rise above their circumstances. Here, I am learning not just the Science of Medicine, but also the essence of compassion. I used to struggle with English, but living in the hostel with students from diverse backgrounds has helped me build this skill, and now I converse with ease and confidence. The excellent academic support here has helped me excel, and I scored 74.78% marks in my first year of MBBS.
My mother often says that she doesn't regret not owning any gold because I am her real treasure, her most valuable asset. One day, I hope to live up to her expectations and make her proud.
I thank everyone involved in this incredible effort to provide free medical education to the rural under-served students.
